Manchester United are close to signing a deal to sign former Arsenal youth striker Chido Obi-Martin. The 16-year-old, who recently became a free agent, turned down Arsenal's offer to become a scholar with the Gunners and opted to continue his career elsewhere. Despite interest from several clubs, including Bayern Munich, United were able to sign him as per Fabrizio Romano.

Chido Obi had a standout season with Arsenal's Under-18s, scoring 29 goals in 17 league matches. He also made headlines by netting 10 goals in a single game against Liverpool for the U16 team. His performances earned him a place in Denmark's squad for the 2024 UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualification campaign as well, where he scored twice in three games.

United's Carrington training base hosted Obi-Martin last week and he was presented with the club's idea about his development, and the club is now close to completing the necessary details of the transfer. Arsenal had offered him a place in their U18 squad with opportunities to play up for the U21s and also potentially train with the first team. However, Obi-Martin was keen to join United's U21 squad directly.

The young striker expressed gratitude to Arsenal in a recent Instagram post, thanking the coaches, staff, and teammates for his development over the past years. Obi-Martin joined Arsenal from Danish side KB in 2022 and has represented both England and Denmark at the junior international level.
