Manchester United are edging closer to securing the services of Uruguayan midfielder Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain. The Red Devils have already agreed personal terms with the 23-year-old, who shares the same agent, Jorge Mendes, as United's latest buy, Leny Yoro. Ugarte is keen on making the move to Old Trafford, despite the absence of Champions League football for the next season, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

United's pursuit of Ugarte comes amid an ongoing strategy to shape the squad with young talents around Europe. Following the £52 million capture of 18-year-old center-back Yoro, United are now focusing on securing Ugarte to strengthen their midfield options under manager Erik ten Hag.

However, negotiations between United and PSG are still at an early stage, with the French champions holding firm on their £59 million valuation of the midfielder. PSG is open to part ways with Ugarte but isn’t budging on the player valuation who only joined PSG last summer in a £42 million move from Sporting Lisbon.

Complicating United's pursuit further is the interest from other top European clubs. Bayern Munich has made inquiries about Ugarte, while two Italian sides and another Premier League club have also contacted PSG regarding a potential deal. This heightened competition strengthens PSG's stance on their valuation, making it challenging for United to secure the midfielder's signature. However, the midfielder is keen on a move to Manchester United.

To facilitate Ugarte's arrival, United may need to make some space in their midfield. Scott McTominay, who netted 10 goals in all competitions last season, is a potential player to make way. Additionally, Brazilian midfielder Casemiro is also a consideration for a move away from the Old Trafford side.

Manager Erik ten Hag is looking to augment the midfield following a significant dip in form from Casemiro last season. United have already had a busy summer, starting with the £36.5 million signing of striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna and then securing Yoro's signature to enhance their defensive options. United have offloaded Van de Beek, Greenwood, and Willy Kambwala as well.
