Manchester United desperately need reinforcements to help Ruben Amorim get this team back into contention, but they must also move on from several players.
According to football journalist Fabrizio Romano, five players have informed United they wish to leave this summer: Marcus Rashford, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia, and Jadon Sancho.
Romano adds that the club "delayed their return date until later in July to allow them time to explore solutions further."
It's not surprising, as all five players have been linked with moves away from Old Trafford.
Man United need to move on from these five players as soon as possible
Marcus Rashford
United made it pretty clear where they stand on Rashford's future by handing his No. 10 squad number to new signing Matheus Cunha. It's pretty rare for a fan favorite like Rashford to lose his number before he's even left the club.
But it highlights the need for change. Rashford has completed a loan spell at Aston Villa, and now FC Barcelona have emerged as a potential destination, either on a permanent transfer or a loan.
Rashford clearly isn't in Amorim's plans, and with hopes of receiving a call-up to England's World Cup squad next summer, he needs the chance to make an impact with regular playing time. He won't get that at United.
A permanent transfer would be the best-case scenario, but even a loan move can work if United can get most (or all) of Rashford's wages off the books.
Antony
This is inevitable. Antony scored five goals in his loan spell with Real Betis, helping them reach the Europa Conference League final. A permanent move to Betis remains the most likely option, and it makes sense for everyone.
United had high hopes after signing Antony for £81.3 million, but he managed just five goals for the club.
It never worked out, and a permanent move to La Liga will allow him to build on the impressive start he made with Betis after joining in January. While United won't get back anything close to the massive transfer fee they paid to sign Antony from Ajax, it's time to move on.
Alejandro Garnacho
There's no way Garnacho can stay at United, but the club is reportedly having to consider lowering their asking price in the transfer market.
According to David McDonnell of The Mirror: "United want around £60million for Garnacho, but there is an acceptance that the public nature of his fall-out with Amorim, coupled with the knowledge that other clubs know the Old Trafford hierarchy want rid of him, means it is unlikely that valuation will be met."
Things got messy after Amorim didn't start Garnacho in the Europa League final. The sooner he moves on to a new team, the better for everyone.
Tyrell Malacia
Fabrizio Romano reported last week that PSV had declined the buy option for Tyrell Malacia after his loan spell ended, which means the left-back will return to Man United.
Malacia only featured in three Premier League contests for United last season before getting a loan move to PSV in February. He made three starts for the Eredivisie club, but they ultimately decided not to retain him.
It's unclear where he goes next, but a transfer out of United is inevitable.
Jadon Sancho
Sancho failed to make a consistent impact with United and spent the past season on loan at Chelsea. The Blues did have an obligation to buy Sancho at the end of the loan spell, but instead paid a £5 million penalty to not sign him permanently.
It has become a frustrating situation for United, who have struggled to make an agreement with another team due to Sancho's wages.
"Juventus have called in recent days to be informed on deal conditions, while Napoli had a meeting with his camp but both clubs are not willing to pay his entire salary as it is considered too high," Fabrizio Romano reports for GiveMeSport. "This is the real issue, as sources say paying a £25m transfer fee would not be a problem for Italian sides, but the salary is seen as a stumbling block."
The good news is that United should have no trouble getting the transfer fee they want, but Sancho's wages remain an issue.
