The sooner Manchester United can move on from Alejandro Garnacho, the better, but it may not be as simple as once thought.
Garnacho took the headlines for all the wrong reasons last week after a picture of him wearing a Marcus Rashford Aston Villa shirt went viral. His departure from Old Trafford is inevitable this summer, but the public fall-out between the two sides may have thrown a wrench into United's plans.
According to David McDonnell of The Mirror, Man United are unlikely to receive the £60 million fee they hoped for.
"United want around £60million for Garnacho, but there is an acceptance that the public nature of his fall-out with Amorim, coupled with the knowledge that other clubs know the Old Trafford hierarchy want rid of him, means it is unlikely that valuation will be met," writes McDonnell.
McDonnell adds that a fee in the region of £40 million is more realistic.
Man United lose leverage over potential Alejandro Garnacho transfer due to public fall-out
Man United can never do things normally, it seems.
Garnacho's departure has felt inevitable since the Europa League final after he publicly criticized Ruben Amorim's decision not to start him. United surprisingly went with Mason Mount in the starting lineup in the loss to Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao.
If not United, where will Garnacho play this season? Chelsea are among the rumored interested teams, with forward Christopher Nkunku potentially going the other way in two separate deals.
Amorim's rebuild of United's attacking options will require some tough decisions, including determining Marcus Rashford's future. Another may be to accept a lower fee for Garnacho than the club initially pushed for.
The entire situation is a mess, and honestly, United need to find a solution as soon as possible. If that means taking a lower fee, then so be it, as frustrating as it may sound.
It's not all doom and gloom, though, as Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo is reportedly inching closer to a big-time move to Old Trafford. Along with Matheus Cunha, United could soon have two significant upgrades in attack.
The attention will then shift to departures, including Garnacho.
