Manchester United face several big decisions in the transfer market in the weeks ahead.
They've already made the marquee signing of Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo may soon follow him to put an end to United's goal-scoring woes. But Ruben Amorim's side must also determine which players are headed for the exit.
Jadon Sancho? Marcus Rashford? United may have already found a destination for Alejandro Garnacho. All three could depart this summer, but the player closest to leaving? Antony.
"Antony is the most advanced when it comes to exits, with Real Betis wishing to turn his loan move into a permanent transfer," reports Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic.
It makes sense. Antony looked like a different player during his six-month loan spell at Betis, scoring five times and assisting twice during his brief run with the La Liga club. Making the move permanent is in everyone's best interest.
Antony could soon make the switch from Man United to Real Betis permanent
United's £81.3 million transfer fee to sign Antony from Ajax remains the second highest in club history, and it couldn't have gone much worse. Across three seasons, the Brazil international found the net only five times in 62 starts.
But that all changed once he joined Betis on loan. Antony helped them reach the Europa Conference League final, netting twice and adding an assist in their 4-3 aggregate win over Fiorentina in the semi-finals. It was his cross that set up Abde Ezzalzouli's extra-time winner.
United have to face the brutal reality that many of their big-money additions haven't paid off.
There's zero chance they can demand a fee anywhere close to the £81.3 million they paid only three years ago, and anything in the £30-40 million range can probably be considered a success.
United need attacking reinforcements but must also negotiate deals for several departing players.
Garnacho will likely never play for United again. Sancho may join Jose Mourinho. Rashford's future is less clear but a departure remains the most likely scenario.
But before they leave, all signs point to Antony being the first out the door.
