Mason Greenwood is on the brink of completing a permanent transfer from Manchester United to Marseille, with a medical scheduled. Fabrizio Romano confirmed the deal on X, stating, "Mason Greenwood to Olympique Marseille, here we go! Deal in place between all parties." He confirmed that Greenwood has agreed to personal terms, with the transfer fee, including add-ons, exceeding €30 million. The contract will extend until 2029, and Manchester United has negotiated a significant sell-on clause.

Despite criticism from Marseille's city mayor, Benoît Payan, the club remained adamant about signing the highly rated English forward. Greenwood, who last played for Manchester United in January 2022, has not featured for the Manchester club since serious charges against him were dropped in February 2023. His transfer is part of United’s strategy to manage financial constraints and compliance with the Premier League’s PSR regulations and also to facilitate Greenwood’s career away from Old Trafford where the fan base was divided over his return to the Red Devils.

Greenwood's move to Marseille fills comes up after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang departs from Marseille. Greenwood had an impressive loan spell at Getafe last season, scoring 10 goals in 36 appearances, and would be an interesting choice for incoming Marseille manager, Roberto de Zerbi. Greenwood's transfer marks the fourth player exiting Manchester United this summer, following Alvaro Fernandez, Donny van de Beek, and Willy Kambwala while Aaron Wan-Bissaka is expected to be shipped out as well.
