Manchester United is searching for a new partner for striker Rasmus Hojlund as they are in the market for a new forward, with Lille’s Jonathan David the latest on the rumour mill. According to a report by The Independent, Manchester United has reportedly made contact with Jonathan David’s camp who is valued at around £25 million but faces competition from fellow Premier League clubs Tottenham, West Ham, and Aston Villa for the Canadian international, who is currently representing Canada at the COPA America.

Lille president Olivier Letang confirmed last week that David, 24, is available for transfer as he only has one year left on his contract. Sources indicate that David could be available for around £25 million, as Lille is keen to avoid losing him for free next summer. No formal offers have been made yet but various Premier League clubs are interested.

With Erik ten Hag’s position secure after a lengthy end-of-the-season review, Manchester United are looking to revamp the squad. Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood are set to be sold to generate funds, while Anthony Martial has already departed as a free agent. Jonathan David had an amazing season where he scored 26 goals and bagged nine assists in 47 appearances while the Canadian International has scored 84 goals in 183 matches since joining Lille from Gent in 2020.

The club is also considering Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee who is also in talks with Serie A giants AC Milan for the transfer. While talks have been positive with Zirkzee’s camp, David represents a more cost-effective option and an easier business to do amid a tight summer budget for Manchester United due to Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules. However, with United ready to sell Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood, a few high-profile names are expected to join the Red Devils this summer.
