Edin Terzic has reportedly emerged as a surprise name on Manchester United's list of candidates to replace Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman is under pressure and co-owners INEOS are deciding his future amid a poor start to the season.
The Sun reports that Terzic, formerly of Borussia Dortmund, is on United's shortlist along with Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter. He left BvB at the end of last season despite guiding the Bundesliga giants to the UEFA Champions League final.
INEOS held a meeting last Tuesday (October 9) to discuss Ten Hag's future and whether to keep the former Ajax coach or part ways. There has yet to be any clarification over how that meeting went and whether he'll still be in charge against Brentford next weekend.
Edin Terzic is the new name on Manchester United's radar
Terzic is said to have many admirers at Manchester United after a succesful reign at Dortmund. He earned his coaching badges England and worked as Slaven Bilic's assistant at West Ham United before taking over at Signal Iduna Park.
The German is viewed as one of Europe's brightest coaches and his stock grew during two spells at Dortmund. He oversaw 18 wins in 29 games in his first stint with BvB and 55 in 96 when returning to the dugout.
Terzic won the DFB-Pokal and German Super Cup over that period and his final season was one to remember. He guided the Germans to the UEFA Champions League final, losing to 2-0 to Real Madrid at Wembley.
A former centre-forward during his playing days, Terzic left the Bundesliga outfit in the summer to take a career break. He is open to managing in the Premier League and there could be an opportunity to do so with the Red Devils.
Terzic beat high-profile coach's Xabi Alonso, Thomas Tuchel and Diego Simeone
Terzic's reign at Dortmund saw him come up against some of Europe's most esteemed managers and fare well. He went unbeaten against Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso whom is regarded as the best coach in Germany after guiding Die Werkself to the Bundesliga title without defeat last season.
His BvB side won one and drew two games against Alonso's Leverkusen. That included a 2-0 win away at BayArena with Karim Adeyemi on the scoresheet.
Terzic also managed to beat Manchester United's over German managerial target Tuchel. He led Dortmund to a 2-0 win away at the Allianz Arena in an impressive display.
Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone also suffered defeat to Terzic in the Champions League last season. A 4-2 win at Signal Iduna Park saw BvB bounce back from a 2-1 win in the first leg of their quarterfinal meeting.
Red Devil Armada Verdict
Terzic proved his worth at Signal Iduna Park, and it could be an exciting option if INEOS does part ways with Ten Hag. His Dortmund side played with freedom, and he blended youth with experience, helping develop the likes of Adeyemi and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens.
