Jadon Sancho once said it was a 'dream come true' to join Manchester United before his disastrous spell at Old Trafford led to a move to Chelsea. The English winger has made a superb start with the Blues, posting three assists in five games.
The 24-year-old unceremoniously left United after a falling out with Erik ten Hag. The pair reconciled in the summer, but last month, he made a timely social media post amid his former club's current struggles.
Sancho reposted a Chelsea X post of himself and Cole Palmer all smiles shortly after United's dismal 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur (September 29). His social media address to Reds fans upon his departure was short and left fans pondering whether he cared for the club who spent £73 million on him in 2021.
"It's an honour" - Jadon Sancho initially was proud to join Manchester United
Manchester United signed Sancho from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021. He was hailed at the time as one of English football's most exciting young talents.
Sancho spoke to club media shortly after his arrival and highlighted the magnitude of joining one of the biggest clubs. He said it was an honour:
"It’s an honour. Growing up, Manchester United was one of the biggest clubs that everyone knows, and of course there is also all the trophies they’ve won and there have been many iconic players that have come before me. So I’m very happy to be wearing this jersey now."
Sancho struggled for form at United, managing 12 goals and six assists in 83 games across competitions. He failed to nail down a starting berth at Old Trafford and fell out with Ten Hag over his training performance.
The Red Devils were a team in transition when Sancho joined three years ago but he was delighted to make the move:
"That’s one of the reasons why I came to Manchester, because I can see the development that’s going on here and I want to be a part of it, especially because it’s such an iconic club and being part of it is kind of a dream come true. I’m sure my family will be proud of me making this big step."Jadon Sancho
Sancho has hit the ground running at Chelsea and flourished while United struggle in attack. His form raises question marks over his management during his time at Old Trafford. That said, the former Manchester City academy product never took to life with the Reds, and a lack of professionalism was evident.
