Manchester United's search for a new No. 9 goes on. We know it almost certainly won't be Viktor Gyokeres, who is inching closer to an Arsenal move.

United are quickly running out of options, highlighted by their reported interest in Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Losing out on Gyokeres hurts, especially as he will likely soon become a Premier League rival, but it has become clear just how much he wants a move to the North London club.

According to Record, Gyokeres has offered to give up around £2 million of his salary to help finalize a transfer to Arsenal. That money could be used to improve Arsenal's offer to Sporting.

In other words, Gyokeres is so desperate to join Arsenal that he is willing to sacrifice some of his own salary to help fund the deal. It's impossible not to admire that commitment, but it can't feel too great for Sporting fans.

Or Man United fans, for that matter.

Man United need to quickly pivot after Viktor Gyokeres closes in on Arsenal move

As we're seeing with United's transfer action going from a sprint to a crawl, it's tough to keep paying top prices for star players. Arsenal have found a way (it sure helps when the player is willing to chip in £2 million of his own money).

United likely require some incoming transfer funds to reinvest in the squad. That, too, has become a frustrating process, with the club still yet to move on from Antony, Jadon Sancho, or Alejandro Garnacho.

It hurts to watch Arsenal, a team United should be competing with at the top of the Premier League, making so many big moves. Ruben Amorim's side is so far off the top six, and this transfer window hasn't helped them close the gap.

It recently became clear that Gyokeres was no longer a realistic option for United, and we now know just how badly he wants a move to Arsenal.

Time is quickly running out for United, who desperately need to find another striker.
