According to Argentine sports channel TYC Sports (h/t The Manchester Evening News, Boca Juniors feels, there is a concrete chance Manchester United will submit a proposal for their starlet Aaron Anselmino in the coming days.

Aaron Anselmino, 19, is the next crop of up-and-coming defensive talents from Argentina. Currently plying his trade for Boca Juniors, the teenager is set to have a bright future if he continues to grow at the current rate.

He has played only 10 times for the senior Boca Juniors side so far having come through the club’s youth ranks. Despite limited first-team exposure in Argentina, the defender’s performances have caught the attention of several clubs across Europe.

Chelsea, as per the Athletic, have intensified their contacts with Aaron Anselmino’s representatives over the last few days. They have also started exploratory talks with Boca Juniors over signing the teenager.

However, the Blues are set to be rivalled by Manchester United for the 19-year-old ball-playing defender’s signature. TYC Sports (h/t The Manchester Evening News) reports that the Red Devils have already tabled a £14m bid for Anselmino which is being considered by Boca Juniors.

Signing a young, top-quality central defender should be among the priorities for Manchester United this summer, especially after the release of Raphael Varane. This leaves Erik ten Hag with Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof as centre-back options in the squad. However, with Martinez and Maguire enduring injury problems last season, Evans well past his prime and Lindelof attracting interest from Turkey, INEOS must invest in a young defender with high potential.

Anselmino falls into that category—young, talented and versatile modern-day centre-back who is extremely comfortable with the ball at his feet. He is highly rated in South America and has the potential to become one of the world’s best in his position. The teenage prodigy could develop into a key player for the Red Devils’ defence and learn the tricks of the trade from his compatriot Martinez.

The Red Devils were all over the place defensively last term and must tighten up at the back this summer if we want to compete for a top-four spot in the 2024/25 campaign. Anselmino seems like the perfect fit for Ten Hag’s side for the present and future, so INEOS must do everything possible to beat Chelsea to the Argentine wonderkid’s signature.
