Manchester United’s latest £52m signing, Leny Yoro, has sparked concerns of a lengthy injury layoff after being seen in a protective boot and using crutches at the club’s training base during the US pre-season 2024. The 18-year-old defender, who recently joined from Lille, was forced off the field during the first half of United’s pre-season defeat to Arsenal at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
Yoro could barely put weight on his foot as he exited the pitch, raising alarm among fans and club personnel. He was later filmed boarding the team bus with his left foot in a protective boot, intensifying fears about the magnitude of his injury. Sky Sports News mentioned that Yoro’s condition appears more concerning than Rasmus Hojlund’s recent hamstring issue.

Manager Erik ten Hag has not yet addressed the media regarding Yoro’s injury and is scheduled to provide an update during a pre-match press conference on Thursday ahead of United’s game against Liverpool in South Carolina. United, who play Real Betis in San Diego on Wednesday, are still assessing the extent of Yoro’s injury.
With Lisandro Martinez yet to return to training following the Copa America, Ten Hag might face a shortage of options at center back for the Premier League opener against Fulham on 16 August, relying on Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans, and Victor Lindelof to fill the gap.
