It's no longer if Marcus Rashford leaves Manchester United, but when.

United have dashed any fans' hopes of Rashford staying and fighting for his place by handing his No. 10 squad number to the incoming Matheus Cunha.

It follows various reports that indicate Rashford is one of several United players who have asked to leave this summer. Now, it only feels like a matter of time before United make a deal with FC Barcelona.

According to Lyall Thomas of Sky Sports, "the door could be opening" for Rashford to join the La Liga champions.

"Barcelona have seen their hopes of landing either Liverpool's Luis Diaz or Athletic Club's Nico Williams more or less extinguished," writes Thomas. "Liverpool rejected Bayern Munich's offer for Diaz - just as they rebuffed Barca's advances earlier this summer - and made it clear the Colombian is not for sale. Then on Friday, Williams signed a new 10-year deal with Athletic Club."

Barcelona have been linked with a move for Rashford all summer, even if that means on a loan deal. And it would make sense for everyone.

Marcus Rashford swapping Man United for Barcelona feels inevitable now

Whether it's a permanent transfer or a loan, the two clubs would have to negotiate a deal, and Rashford's wages could present a problem. But all sides should want it to happen.

The chance to play for Barcelona is huge, but it could also put Rashford firmly in the mix to earn a spot in Thomas Tuchel's England squad for the World Cup next year.

United don't play European football this season, so there's no concern with strengthening a Champions League rival, and Rashford joining Barcelona is a far better outcome than another Premier League side.

It might not happen quickly. Chris Wheeler of the Daily Mail reports that United have delayed Rashford's return to preseason training, along with four other players. That gives them some extra time to figure out his future.

But Rashford to Barcelona makes sense for everyone. United need to move on, ideally receive a transfer fee, and get Rashford's contract off the books. Barcelona is a great landing spot for Rashford, and he can help the La Liga champions.

Who says no? With Rashford's departure all but confirmed, it feels like only a matter of time before he heads to Barcelona.
