Manchester United Contract Situations with Key Players
Manchester United are yet to make firm decisions on the futures of four players whose contracts expire next summer. Tom Heaton, Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof, and Christian Eriksen are all in the final year of their deals, with none having an option for an additional year. The club is weighing up its options as the season progresses.
Lindelof, who was almost sold in the summer, is expected to leave if he stays beyond the January window. The Swedish defender had missed most of the preseason due to injury, which delayed his departure. United had extended his contract last December in hopes of securing a transfer fee, but his injury struggles persisted throughout the year.
Christian Eriksen has started six of United's last seven matches and has been one of the more consistent performers, contributing three goals and three assists. However, the club is looking to revamp their midfield next summer, with Eriksen turning 33 in February. His future at Old Trafford remains uncertain.
Veteran players Heaton and Evans both signed one-year extensions in the summer. With family ties in the northwest, there is flexibility for possible renegotiations, depending on United’s managerial situation. Erik ten Hag’s future is unclear as United have won just three of their opening 11 games, and any decision on contract renewals could hinge on whether he remains in charge. Both Evans and Heaton are expected to take coaching jobs at the club sometime in the future as well.
Harry Maguire and Amad are also in the final year of their contracts, though United have the option to extend both players’ deals by a year. Amad is expected to be offered fresh terms, as he has grown into a more important player this year. Maguire, who is currently sidelined with an injury, is also under review after a series of opportunities to offload him during the last couple of seasons.
United face Brentford over the weekend with Evans and Amad both expected to feature.
