Manchester United's Viktor Gyokeres dream has likely ended, with Arsenal closing in, but they may have found an alternative.
According to Mark Critchley and Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic, United are "keeping tabs on Fiorentina's Moise Kean." They note that Kean has a €52 million release clause, which converts to around £44.8 million.
Kean has some Premier League experience from his time at Everton, but he has taken his game to another level in Serie A with Fiorentina after a frustrating few years with Juventus. He is coming off his best season, scoring 17 goals in 31 league appearances to help Fiorentina to their best league position in nine years.
United have rumored interest in several strikers, but Kean would make a lot of sense.
Moise Kean could fix Man United's desperate need for a No. 9
With Matheus Cunha on the left and Bryan Mbeumo (hopefully) on the right, Kean would have the service he needs in the box, especially if Bruno Fernandes stays.
Whereas Cunha and Mbeumo have experience across the front three, Kean has played primarily as a center-forward throughout his career, and that's where United need the most help.
It's why United have been linked to several strikers this summer, including Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins, although it seems unlikely Villa will sell him. It's also why they had interest in signing Gyokeres.
Interestingly, though, Kean has more Premier League experience than Gyokeres. While Gyokeres played in the Championship with Coventry City, he has yet to play in England's top flight, which adds some doubt about whether he can replicate his incredible goal-scoring record in North London.
Kean only scored twice in 32 games for Everton, but spending time in Serie A has helped him level up as a striker.
He could be the answer to United's search for a No. 9.
