Man United could sign Villarreal left back Sergi Cardona for only €15m, if they wish to finally part ways with Luke Shaw. It's an absolute no-brainer.
For the last few seasons, and in fact most of his career to date, Luke Shaw has been plagued by injuries. When he's available, he's one of the best defenders in the league and a real asset to Man United, but his sheer lack of availability makes him not worth keeping.
Look, Luke Shaw's injuries are no fault of his own. In fact, it could be attributed to poor luck. Either way, the cause is of no concern to Man United this summer; they need to be tough, it's high-time they were.
Sergi Cardona available for just €15m
According to Fabrizio Romano, Villarreal left-back Sergi Cardona is available for only €15m. Unnamed Premier League clubs have been showing interest in signing Sergi Cardona and if they aren't already, Man United should be all over this opportunity like a rash.
Man United need to sign a new left-back. They are stacked in the right-back department, and often forced into playing players out of their strongest position due to Luke Shaw's poor injury record.
Signing Sergi Cardona would alleviate all of those depth problems for Man United, and they could do it for a cheap fee - Something you don't see too much of these days.
Man United needs to sign Sergi Cardona
Sergi Cardona is a brilliant example of a modern-day full-back. Not only is he capable defensively, but he has great attacking prowess too. He has the capability to play in all three thirds, but he also has the work rate to make that possible.
Ruben Amorim is a manager who still needs to implement his best philosophy at Man United. Thankfully, by signing Sergi Cardona, he would have the flexibility to try out multiple systems.
Cardona's strengths lend themselves naturally into playing as a wing-back in a back-three system. Therefore, Man United could see both their defence and offence improve by signing the left-back.
This move makes complete sense. Unfortunately, Man United haven't given fans ultimate confidence in pursuing these common sense transfers of late.
