This one Man United flop will never live up to the hype (Amorim must cut bait)

Manchester United's poor transfer business over the years has put the club in a desperate situation regarding offloading players who are sitting on hefty wages. There are a few members of Ruben Amorim's squad who have at least fared well despite the enormous amount of money they earn each week.

Casemiro is the perfect example, showing his experience to try and help Amorim implement his playing philosophy. The veteran Brazilian put in some excellent shifts, particularly in the Europa League before the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the final.

Yet, several players have failed not only to live up to their staggering price tag and weekly wages but also to crumble under the pressure of wearing a United shirt. This describes one of the Red Devils' most disappointing transfers of the past five years.

Mason Mount transfer is an unfixable disaster

When United paid £60m to bring Mason Mount to Old Trafford, there was a mixed response from fans. The English midfielder had faltered in the latter stages of his Chelsea spell. The red carpet was rolled out for Mount when he arrived at Carrington. He was handed the club's illustrious number seven shirt, and Erik ten Hag told him he was a "very important player".

It felt like the perfect opportunity for Mount to revive his career and for the Red Devils to rely on his creativity alongside Bruno Fernandes. He has been a disaster, unfortunately plagued by constant injury issues. Just when the 36-cap England international looks to have turned a corner, he picks up another knock, which turns into an extended period on the sidelines.

We all know how talented the Portsmouth-born playmaker is when he's at his best. He played a vital role in Chelsea's 2012 Champions League triumph. The problem is that he's never on the pitch and when he is he's done nothing to back up his purported £250,000 per week wages (per Capology).

Mount reportedly wants to stay and fight for his place in Amorim's team, per Fabrizio Romano. But there is no time for us to be patient with him and he's been given chance after chance to shed off his fitness troubles.

This is one of the most important transfer windows in the club's history and it's got off to a good start regarding incomings. Matheus Cunha has arrived from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £62.5m while Bryan Mbeumo looks to be closing in on a £60m move from Brentford.

There is pressure to offload players who have no future under Amorim, including Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Alejandro Garnacho. But Mount should be included in such talk because even when he's been on the pitch, other than his Athletic Bilbao brace, he hasn't exactly set the world alight.

"Some are not good enough and some probably are overpaid, but for us to mould the squad that we are fully responsible for, and accountable for, will take time." - Sir Jim Ratcliffe (via Manchester Evening News).

For all too long, we've seen United hand new contracts to players hampered by injury problems, such as Phil Jones and Victor Lindelof. If this were the previous regime, there'd be every chance we'd see Mount not only stay but be rewarded with a new deal.

This is where INEOS need to show they are prepared to be strict and ensure Amorim has a squad that can perform at all times with the right mentality. Mount has been the ultimate professional during his Old Trafford injury nightmare but he's not fit the bill and that is an expensive one.
