Leicester City has officially sacked man United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy, after the club cemented their relegation status last season.

Ruud van Nistelrooy needs absolutely no introduction to Man United fans. He joined the club on a decision-making capacity last season and when Erik ten Hag was fired, even stepped up as interim manager until Ruben Amorim was hired.

Then, the Dutch talisman, as he is mostly remembered at Old Trafford, parted ways with the club amicably to take on the Leicester City post, hoping to steer them back in the right direction.

It couldn't be further from the reality, though, as Ruud van Nistelrooy only made Leicester worse.

Leicester City sack Ruud van Nistelrooy

Leicester City is a struggling club. Most fans in England and worldwide have a soft spot for the Foxes, given how they changed Premier League history by winning the trophy against all odds.

However, while that achievement will live on forever, Leicester is in dire straits right now. In the last three seasons, they have suffered two relegations. Granted, they did win the Championship comfortably last season but that's a far-cry from the expectations they've set of themselves.

As they look ahead towards their second season in the Championship over the last three years, the Foxes likely see Ruud as a large reason why they suffered this fate. Therefore, they are looking at other options.

What next for the Man United legend?

For Ruud van Nistelrooy, his future remains uncertain. However, given his pedigree as both a Premier League legend and being a young manager with the future ahead of him, he won't be short of options.

As is often the case for club legends, there will always be a place at Man United for Ruud should he wish to return in any capacity.

Just like Leicester is right now, Man United is a sinking ship that needs re-steering. Heck, given the standards of both clubs, Man United is arguably in a worse situation than Leicester is relatively speaking.

So, it wasn't to be for Ruud in his first post-Man United role, but it's far from over for him.
