Fans floored by who’s making the most at Man United

Man United has an extortionate wage bill for a club that is, well, underachieving. Even without looking at the numbers, Man United fans know that the club is wasting a lot of money.

Sure, Man United is the second richest club in the world, so they can afford to offer out large wage bills, right? Wrong.

Man United must be very careful about where they’re spending resources. They must be certain that they’ll see a return on their investment which, in the current era, they aren’t.

Who is the highest paid player at Man United?

As it stands, who is the highest paid player at Man United? Let’s take a look at the top five earners

Casemiro (£350,000 per week)

Casemiro is an odd case to analyse. Sure, he’s a serial winner, and he knows what it takes to play in a team of winners. His experience at the highest level is arguably invaluable to Man United, hence why they pay him this amount of money.

However, Casemiro isn’t nearly the player he was when Man United first signed him. In fact, he’s been on a gradual decline ever since. Therefore, it’s hard to justify paying him £350,000 per week, with an additional £5,200,000 in yearly bonuses.

Casemiro is the highest paid player at Man United by quite some distance, but he doesn’t play like it.

He's just... Fine. But a fine player shouldn't earn this amount of money.

Bruno Fernandes (£300,000 per week)

Okay, this inclusion makes a little more sense. Bruno Fernandes is the Man United captain and by a country mile, their best player in recent history. It feels scary to say, but the Red Devils would be in a much worse position than they are now without Bruno.

While some would argue that it’s the captain’s responsibility to steer a sinking ship, the captain is also under guidance from the manager.

Recently, he committed his future to Man United despite big money offers elsewhere, and Man United fans only grew more in love with Bruno Fernandes. Long may his era continue, and hopefully, he’ll get some success to reward him for his time here.

Mason Mount (£250,000 per week)

Man United made a serious investment when they signed Mason Mount from Chelsea. However, like they often do, Chelsea ended up laughing for robbing Man United blind.

Mason Mount has severely underperformed for Man United. The English midfielder is treading on thin ice this summer, and some even predict that this contract won’t be in place for much longer.

More and more Man United fans lean in favour of selling Mount this summer. After all, it would open the door for a much better midfielder to come in, while saving Man United £250,000 per week, plus £2,600,000 in yearly bonuses.

That said, with the club standing by Mason Mount, fans are questioning why that's the case.

Matthijs de Ligt (£195,000 per week)

It’s hard to praise any Man United signing, considering how poor Man United has been in recent times. However, Matthijs de Ligt has been a breath of fresh air.

A solid defender who is still young and has time to up his game. His mentality is different from most others in this team, and if Man United is to win anything in the upcoming years, the Dutch defender will be largely to thank.

Like Bruno Fernandes, this is another justified contract. Heck, he could even be a captain in the future, too.

Harry Maguire (£190,000 per week)

Last but certainly not least, it’s Harry Maguire.

Where do we start with Maguire? He obviously has been through a rollercoaster of emotions at Man United, with some fans even turning their backs on him. However, he’s one of the players to come out of the 2024/25 season with his head held high.

Of course, there were all of the clutch goals Maguire scored for Man United. This is only one part of his game. Maguire’s presence in both boxes is invaluable for Man United and, there was a point in time where we never thought we’d be signing his praises.

Maguire has earned it. More of the same, please.
