Manchester United face huge blow in trying to strengthen midfield

Manchester United have been dealt with a huge blow in their attempt to strengthen their midfield in the January transfer window.
Nothing seems to be going Manchester United’s way at the moment. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has had an incredibly frustrating time since the turn of the new year. As soon as January descended things have gone from bad to worse. Defeats to Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool and now Burnley have put a huge dent in the Red Devils’ ambition to reach the coveted fourth spot in the Premier League.
But it hasn’t just been on the pitch where things have gone awry. The January transfer window has also been shambolic for the club.
The Red Devils failed miserably to land their first target of the window in Erling Haaland despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer purportedly being certain his fellow compatriot would chose United. Erling Haaland opted for Borussia Dortmund instead and his decision has already reaped its rewards with the wonderkid netting a hat-trick on his Bundesliga debut.
The second target the club missed out on was Bruno Ferndandes who would have been a vital addition to the Red Devils’ often lack-lustre midfield devoid of creative spark. Yet despite being close to completing a move United could not negotiate the deal and it fell through.
The injury crisis is also mounting at Old Trafford with the likes of Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay and now even Marcus Rashford all sidelined. They have arguably been the club’s three best players therefore the need for reinforcements couldn’t be greater.
United have recently been linked with the possible option to recall Alexis Sanchez from his loan spell at Inter Milan but it seems that might also be impossible. According to the Evening Standard the Red Devils cannot recall Alexis Sanchez as there is no ‘recall clause’ in the loan contract which took him to Inter Milan.
That means the Red Devils will be forced to look elsewhere. The clock is ticking and Ed Woodward and his team do not have long left.
What do you think who should Manchester United sign in January?
