Manchester United fans are eagerly awaiting Bryan Mbeumo's debut after the Cameroonian forward joined the club earlier this month. The Reds had chased his signature since early June and finally landed their man after frustrating negotiations with Brentford.
Mbeumo joined United in a deal worth up to £71m, a hefty price to pay but he's a proven Premier League winner who bagged 20 goals in the top-flight last season. He's joined up with Amorim's group for the pre-season tour of the United States but wasn't named in the squad that beat West Ham United 2-1 on Saturday at MetLife Stadium.
Next up for the Red Devils is a clash with Bournemouth at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois. Amorim has given an update on whether Mbeumo will be part of the squad that takes on the tricky Cherries.
Amorim suggests Mbeumo will debut against Everton
Mbeumo has been pictured all smiles in training in the United States alongside the likes of fellow new signing Matheus Cunha and captain Bruno Fernandes. He, much like fans, is likely chomping at the bit to make his debut albeit non-competitive during the tour.
Amorim has confirmed that fans will have to wait a little longer to see the Cameroon international debut. He told MUTV (via the club's website) ahead of the encounter with Bournemouth on Thursday (July 31):
"Bryan is starting slowly. He is not going to play in the next one. We hope to have Bryan in the last game [in the United States]. He's training now, so we'll see."
This means Mbeumo will hopefully debut in United's last friendly of the tour against Everton on Sunday (August 3). It's a waiting game for supporters much like it was for INEOS in talks with Brentford for the player.
Amorim on Mbeumo and Cunha's contrasting personalities
While having the ability and goalscoring resume were big factors in United's decision to sign Mbeumo and Cunha it was also essential they did the groundwork on their personalities. There have been several problems arise at Old Trafford in recent years regarding player power.
Alejandro Garnacho's petulance has put him in the shop window and Amorim wasn't pleased with Barcelona loanee Marcus Rashford's training standards.
The Portuguese coach does seem to be enthused by Mbeumo and Cunha and how they fit into the squad as two differing characters. He said after the win over West Ham (via Sky Sports):
"He's (Cunha) really loud in the dressing room. I love that for him. He's completely different to Bryan (Mbeumo). Bryan's the opposite."
"He's a REALLY fun character in the changing room" 👀

That's a good sign for United because we want players at the club whose main ambition is to be a success as part of the team. It feels that this mindset has been highlighted as a must by the transfer chiefs, putting the Red Devils before anything else.
