Wayne Rooney said that the decision for Carlos Tevez to join Man City from Man United was devastating, and he would've loved for Tevez to stay.

Manchester is in unison about pretty much every cultural question, but there's still one that divides the capital of the North: Red or blue?

Obviously, Man United is the bigger club of the two main Manchester teams. Any conversation on the contrary isn't worth entertaining, as even a fool will admit United is one of the biggest clubs in the world, let alone Manchester.

Carlos Tevez was the ultimate Man United betrayal

However, a few decisions and achievements in recent history have challenged that status quo, and many point to Carlos Tevez as being one of the first to challenge that ideology.

Carlos Tevez is a household name in Manchester, and depending on who you ask, you could get two very different reasons about why. Those wearing red will eff and jeff, call him a turncoat and spit upon his name. Those wearing blue, though, will recall only good memories.

See, Carlos Tevez made the controversial switch from Man United to Man City in 2009. Despite winning more honours at United, Tevez is hardly considered a club legend for that very reason.

Wayne Rooney was devastated when Carlos Tevez left

Wayne Rooney, a former teammate to Carlos Tevez, recently made an admission which can be felt by Man United fans, even the proudest ones who don't care to admit it.

Wayne Rooney said that he was devastated when Carlos Tevez left Man City and while he can understand the success he envisioned there, he couldn't help but wish that decision was never made.

In his own words, Rooney said: "I was gutted to be honest. I’m pretty sure Carlos wanted to stay at Manchester United."

"Man City at the time were trying to build and become competitive and I knew that he’d be a massive part of that because obviously the ability he has."

"I think we’ve seen when he went there, he had some great times there as well. I was devastated, I would’ve really like him to stay longer and continue to play with him."

Given the opportunity, most Man United fans would jump at the chance to keep Tevez and Rooney working together for longer. However, given what they know now about Tevez, that percentage might have dropped quite substantially.
