If you ask most Manchester United fans who their preference has been to take the number nine spot in Ruben Amorim's team the answer would likely be Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian is the perfect profile: 26 years of age, experienced, a proven goalscorer, technically gifted and available for transfer.
The Red Devils have made a frustrating start to one of the most important transfer windows in history. Liam Delap's move to Chelsea was a nuisance because he was seemingly Jason Wilcox's top target while Viktor Gyokeres will soon become an Arsenal player and the Swede was probably Amorim's desired new centre-forward.
Osimhen remains the biggest name on the striker's market but no top Premier League club, including United, are moving for him. This is because he's demanding astronomical wages when the Reds are trying to further implement a proper wage structure.
That said, once in a while, you have to swallow your pride and take a risk, and the Nigeria international has proven he can live up to expectations, unlike Jadon Sancho, who the club threw £300,000 per week at in 2022.
Man United now have no hope of signing Victor Osimhen
Osimhen is set to become the latest top frontman to pass United by as he looks set to make a permanent move to Galatasaray. He spent last season on loan at RAMS Park from Napoli and excelled, helping the Turks win the league title.
Fabrizio Romano reports that the Turkish Super Lig giants will approach the Serie A club again for Osimhen. They had a £51m (€60m) offer rejected but are set to return with another proposal and they have an agreement in place with the player over a three-year deal.
Osimhen was one of Europe's in-form strikers last season and felt an ideal acquisition for Amorim. It looks as though there's now no chance of seeing him rock up at Old Trafford.
How Man United could have persuaded Victor Osimhen to make the move
Osimhen is believed to be asking for £400,000 per week (per GIVEMESPORT), which is far and beyond United's capabilities on the wage front. But if you can make him specific promises regarding the project and vision for him to become Amorim's talisman, then surely you can at least shed that amount by using bonuses such as a Premier League title win or a lengthy Champions League run.

The last big name the Reds have managed to sign was arguably Casemiro, and that was when his better days were blatantly behind him. Transfer chiefs have splashed out £62.5m on Matheus Cunha, which is a good signing, but the hold on Bryan Mbeumo and the decision not to entertain an Osimhen move is ruining a crucial transfer window.
Fans just want to see some ambition following the worst Premier League season in history. Even if Osimhen's demands are extortionate, you can look at ways to work around it if you're supposedly one of the biggest clubs in the world.
