According to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte has passed his medical tests ahead of signing his contract with Manchester United.

After chasing the South American destroyer since mid-July, news emerged earlier this week that Manchester United have finally agreed terms with Paris Saint-Germain over the player’s signing.

The Red Devils have agreed €50million base fee plus a further €10m in add-ons with PSG for Manuel Ugarte. The French champions have reportedly inserted a 10 per cent sell-on clause in the agreement.

On Wednesday morning, German journalist Florian Plettenberg provided an update on his official X account that Ugarte has successfully completed his medical at Man United and an official announcement is around the corner.

This brings an end to the Ugarte saga, with Erik ten Hag eventually managing to land his summer’s No.1 midfield target. The Uruguayan is set to become Man United’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window, after the exciting acquisitions of Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

Ugarte, 23, only arrived at PSG last summer after two strong seasons with Sporting CP in Portugal. However, after a bright start to life in Paris, the defensive midfielder fell out of favour under head coach Luis Enrique. Yet, he made 37 appearances across all competitions for Enrique’s side as they won the Ligue 1 title.

Following the high-profile signing of Joao Neves from Benfica earlier this summer, it became clear that Ugarte doesn’t have a future at Parc des Princes. Man United—led by INEOS along with Erik ten Hag—sensed an opportunity in the market to bring the Uruguay international to Old Trafford. And after intense negotiations for over a month with PSG, who wanted a fixed €60million fee for the midfielder, Man United have done a good job to potentially land Ugarte for a lesser fee.

Let’s hope Ugarte is registered in time to feature in the big game against our arch-rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.
