According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United is eyeing Sporting CP center-back Goncalo Inacio to bolster their defence department. The towering 22-year-old has a release clause of 60M Euros. The Portugal center-back has been instrumental in Sporting's season starting 32 games in the Liga Portugal, missing just 2 games through an injury and a suspension with an additional 9 games in the Europa League.
The Portuguese is a very good ball playing defender and certainly suits the modern center-back criteria. The towering defender boasts excellent ball progression stats and a commendable arsenal of defensive capabilities. United has struggled during the last season under Erik ten Hag, where an injury plagued season forced Manchester United to try a multitude of different center-back pairings.
VERDICT
Ahead of the first summer transfer window under the new INEOS owners, Manchester United are look set to roll the cash for some new additions. Injuries causing United to experiment extensively in the back line may turn out to be a saviour to Erik ten Hag's job as Manchester United's manager for the next season. However, Manchester United definitely needs reinforcement at the back where the 22-year Portuguese is a neat choice in the defensive department.
