Amad Diallo is the Solution to the Right-Winger Problem
The hole at right-wing for Manchester United has been apparent for a long time.
Though many attempts have been made at fixing it, such as the £73 million move for Jadon Sancho and the £82 million move for Antony, none have seemingly been able to truly replace the output Cristiano Ronaldo gave. This is why what Amad Diallo is doing in preseason, a player who has been largely forgotten since his exemplary Sunderland loan, is so exciting and potentially could save United an additional headache.
Amad Diallo's career started at the Serie A side Atalanta, making waves in multiple youth tournaments and being compared to the great Lionel Messi in training by first-team players. Amad made a few appearances for Atalanta, including in the Champions League. After being by United in October of 2020, Amad officially joined in January of 2021. Since then, his career has been all over the place, including two loans at Rangers and Sunderland. Last year was perhaps the year for Amad to truly take over, but a preseason injury prevented that. But with a last-minute winner in the FA Cup against Liverpool and being able to carry that momentum through the rest of the season, Amad looks poised to breakout.

Amad is a special player in many ways. His short and poignant dribbling technique allows him to ride challenges effectively and turn defenders inside and out. While not the fastest player in the world, his 1-3 meter range burst is quick enough to beat most defenders. But when Amad gains that yard of space, he does not lash at the ball or make a decision too quickly. Rather, he understands where he is in space and how to most efficiently move the ball forward, whether that is using the overlap or cutting in on his left foot to score, which has been on display during this preseason.
It is this trait of Amad that makes him a truly can’t-miss prospect. He strikes the ball true and is capable of a vareity of finishes. Being a goal-scorer has immense value in football, and Amad having this strength only makes him more fool-proof.
Amad also displays a great willingness to engage in duels in both halves. His body position and mindset are laser-focused, and he is often seen chasing his man to his own goal. His size does limit his defensive potential, but his general desire to win the ball back is commendable.
All in all, Amad is a player who makes the game look easy. He makes the fancy plays but knows when to slow down the tempo and go infield. With the horsepower that Hojlund, Zirkzee, and Rashford provide, Amad is arguably the perfect foil to truly make the United front-three tick.
