Manchester United's transfer window started fast with the signing of Matheus Cunha, but it has since become frustrating for a team in desperate need of reinforcements.

They still haven't finalized a deal for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, leaving some uncertainty over that move, and they look set to miss out on a potential game-changing striker.

United may need to move to Plan B, as any hopes of landing Sporting's Viktor Gyokeres are fading fast.

According to CaughtOffside, Gyokeres wants to join Arsenal, despite multiple teams showing interest. The report adds that his preference "was heavily influenced by his conversations with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta."

It's looking increasingly unlikely that Gyokeres will be heading to Old Trafford this summer.

It's yet another frustrating moment in the transfer window. Arsenal can offer Gyokeres a starring role in their Champions League campaign, whereas United won't play European football at all. That's important.

But that hasn't stopped United from remaining a draw for top players, including Cunha and Mbeumo.

Ruben Amorim needs a top attacker to play centrally, and if Gyokeres isn't on the way, United must quickly pivot to another option. Perhaps that includes Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins.

Another name to watch is Napoli's Victor Osimhen, who is reportedly interested in a move to United.

But it's undoubtedly frustrating for Man United fans that Arsenal look set to win the race for Gyokeres, who hasn't stopped scoring goals since joining Sporting. He has found the net 68 times in the league over the past two seasons, building on the success he enjoyed with Coventry City in the Championship.

United must quickly find an alternative. They have options but need to move fast if they want to add another goalscorer before they begin the preseason.
