Man United's nightmare scenario over exiled trio gains weight amid new kit release

Manchester United have released pictures of the squad in the 2024-25 home kit, and there are several surprise appearances in the photo collection. The Red Devils officially unveiled the jersey earlier this summer, but players have now been snapped showing off the red shirt.

One of those was Matheus Cunha, who joined United from Wolves soon into the summer transfer window. The Brazilian is all smiles while showing off his new kit, and he'll likely be eyeing Ruben Amorim's left wing come next season.

United's media team uploaded said pictures on the official website with the tagline: "It's July, and you know what that means... the squad has been photographed for our 25/26 home kit."

That comes as no surprise but the appearance of three outcasts is bound to stir up even more speculation over their futures.

United have been expected to undergo a huge overhaul this summer, but it's the start of July and only Cunha is through the door. There have been no exits despite almost all of Amorim's squad being up for sale following a disastrous season.

Three of those are Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Antony, who all spent last season out on loan. All three left in somewhat unceremonious fashion but are included in the team photos for next season.

Could it mean the trio still may have futures at the club?

It may just be the media team's duty to photoshop every squad member into the new kit. But you'd find it hard to find a fan who wanted to see Sancho donning a United shirt again.

What does the future hold for Rashford, Sancho, and Antony?

Rashford cuts a long face in his snap, which would likely have been the case throughout his tumultuous fallout with Amorim in the winter. He left on loan for Aston Villa in January after being exiled by the new coach for not reaching his standards.

The 27-year-old's future is up in the air but he is back at Carrington after Villa decided against triggering the £40m option in his loan deal. He is dreaming of a move to Barcelona, but reportedly isn't willing to take a wage cut.

It's fair to say that Sancho doesn't have the support of most, if not any, United fans. He, similarly to Rashford, was banished from the first team in 2023 after a bust-up with Amorim's predecessor Erik ten Hag.

Sancho spent last season on loan at Chelsea, who had an obligation to buy for £20m but could pay a £5m penalty fee to cancel the deal. The Blues did just that after failing to agree on personal terms with one of the biggest flops in Old Trafford history.

There is little to no chance of seeing him back playing under Amorim because if the Portuguese thought Rashford's attitude was bad, he hasn't seen anything yet. The only issue with Sancho is trying to get him off the books, although Juventus are in talks over a potential deal, per Sky Sports.

Antony was the best performer of the three during their loan spells last season, shining during his time in Spain with Real Betis. The Brazilian, who cost United a staggering £82m in 2022, admitted he'd struggled mentally at Old Trafford.

A career renaissance at Betis may have helped increase the club's value of the former Ajax winger. Of the three wantaway players, you'd perhaps be backing him to be the one who stays if any are to be wearing the new kit come next season.
