In an ideal world, Man United would sell and replace every single player. At this stage, it seems like the only logical way to address this dire situation. However, unfortunately, it doesn't work like that, so Man United must follow "the plan."

Tom Heaton is, without a doubt, an exceptional professional. He has a great personality and he's obviously well-liked at Man United, for good reason. However, Man United fans are struggling to get excited about this news, given the chaos which is seemingly unfolding right before their very eyes.
Fans question why Tom Heaton was rewarded
Tom Heaton probably won't make a league appearance for Man United next season. If he does, then something has gone seriously wrong. So, it begs the question about why Man United would re-sign him, especially amid a planned overhaul.
The same question cannot be asked of Heaton, though. Fans completely understand why he would want to extend his contract.
It comes down to a matter of "why wouldn't he?" - Anyone in their right mind would jump at the opportunity of being employed by one of the biggest sporting entities in the world, while not being expected to play.

Obviously, the money card has been pulled out multiple times on social media. Fans are under the impression that this will be the easiest pay day ever for Tom Heaton.
Other fans are just flat out confused, with many pondering why Man United would extend his contract.

Look, the atmosphere at the club is toxic right now. Understandably, fans think that every decision the club makes goes against their best interest. Fans aren't exactly being reassured otherwise, after all.
