Manchester United’s young defender Leny Yoro has made a significant step in his recovery from a serious foot injury sustained during the club's pre-season tour of the United States. The 18-year-old, who joined United from Lille in July, underwent surgery in August and has spent the last three months working his way back to fitness.

Yoro picked up the injury during a pre-season match against Arsenal, shortly after featuring in another friendly against Rangers. Despite the setback, the French centre-back has remained determined to return to action, with his latest progress marking a key milestone.

In recent days, Yoro posted a video on social media of himself running on a treadmill during the international break. This followed manager Erik ten Hag’s confirmation that the teenager was ‘in the right spot’ with his rehabilitation. Now, Manchester United have confirmed that Yoro has advanced to outdoor training, being pictured out on the grass at the club’s Carrington training ground.

The young defender was also put through his paces in the gym on Thursday under the supervision of United’s medical staff. While a competitive debut for Yoro may still be some time away, this phase in his recovery is an encouraging sign for both the player and the team.

United’s defence has been hit with several injuries this season, with players like Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, and Lisandro Martinez all missing time. Yoro’s return would provide much-needed depth to Ten Hag’s backline, although the club is expected to carefully manage his transition back to full training.

While a return before the November international break appears unlikely, Yoro’s progress is a positive sign as United looks to navigate a challenging start to their Premier League campaign.
