Report: Manchester United make their first move on Turkish goalkeeper
Manchester United have conducted preliminary medical tests on Fenerbahçe goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, according to journalist David Ornstein.
Reports in Turkey earlier in the day had reported than the Red Devils have tabled a €7million bid for the Turkish goalkeeper, but Ornstein’s report suggest that United will monitor his medical test before deciding to make a move. This surrounds a back problem that Bayindir has.
The Fenerbahçe goalkeeper was the established No1 for the departed Jorgé Jesus last season, making 40 appearances on his way to Fenerbahçe winning the Turkish Cup and finishing second in the Turkish Super Lig.
United are searching for a No2 to replace Dean Henderson, who is widely expected to leave the club in this transfer window. Any plan to recruit another goalkeeper would be dependent on Henderson leaving. Ten Hag is also interested in Benfica goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos.
It is yet to be decided which goalkeeper Ten Hag will go for, but Vlachodimos is the slightly more expensive option. Both goalkeepers would provide experienced cover as they are or have been established No1 at their clubs. Given that United are being very precautious with their spending for the rest of the window, it is imoerative for the departures to come before nay rivals do. The Old Trafford side still have a number of players in their books which they wish to get rid of – which is holding up potential transfers such as Sofyan Amrabat, Ryan Gravenberch and one of Bayindir and Vlachodimos.
