Former Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has backed the club to challenge for the Premier League title under new manager Erik ten Hag in the 2023-24 season.

Ten Hag was appointed as United’s new manager following the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and Matic believes the Dutchman’s tactics and experience will help the team reach new heights.

Matic, who won three Premier League titles during his time at Chelsea, praised Ten Hag’s ability to play an attacking style of football while also maintaining defensive solidity. The Serbian midfielder also believes that United’s current squad has the quality to compete at the highest level, but emphasized the need for consistency over the course of a season.

Nemanja Matic believes Manchester United can challenge for Premier League title

Matic told reporters:

"“I like the way he wants to play, I like the way United are playing. They have had some ups and downs and that is normal with a new manager. But I’m happy with how they have progressed and I think next season they will fight for the title for sure. ”Source Sky Sports"

He even opened up about Marcus Rashford’s form this season stating,

"“For me, he’s one of, it not the best United player. He scores so many goals and he just needs to continue. For one player to perform he needs the support of all the team.”“If United as a team are doing well then always one player will appear a star. The good thing is that the star is a striker or winger or midfielder. In previous seasons we had the star of David de Gea and if your goalkeeper is the star that is not good and you are in trouble.”“I’m happy for Marcus because he’s a talented player and a very good person.”"

In order to contest for the League title next season, United boss Erik ten Hag knows the importance of the summer transfer window and wants the club to focus on strengthening their midfield and attacking options.

United have been linked with a number of high-profile signings in recent months, including Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Tottenham‘s Harry Kane, as well as midfielders such as Declan Rice and Matheus Nunes.
