Manchester United has set its sights on signing Wolverhampton Wanderers’ midfielder Matheus Nunes this summer, according to Football Insider. Nunes has been a standout player for Wolves since joining the team in 2022, and his performances have caught the eye of several top clubs, including United. The Red Devils are said to be willing to pay up to £40 million ($55 million) to secure Nunes’ signature.

The move is being driven by United’s star midfielder, Bruno Fernandes, who has hailed Nunes as an “incredible” player in interviews. The two players previously played together at Sporting Lisbon and have remained friends since their time at the club. Fernandes is said to be keen on the prospect of linking up with Nunes at Old Trafford.

Nunes has made 35 appearances in all competitions for Wolves this season. He is known for his range of passing, long-range shooting ability, and defensive contributions, making him a versatile midfielder who could fit into United’s midfield setup.

Manchester United consider signing Wolves’ Matheus Nunes

United is looking to strengthen its squad this summer following a disappointing run in the Europa League after the defeat to Sevilla, and struggling at times to hold on to their top-four finish in the Premier League. The team is in need of a new central midfielder, with doubts over the futures of Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek.

Nunes, who is under contract at Wolves until 2027, has been linked with a move away from the club in recent transfer windows. While Wolves would likely want to keep hold of their star midfielder, the chance to play for a club as big as United could be too good to pass up. It remains to be seen what kind of money United are ready to spend on Nunes considering their priority being the signing of a new striker and centre-back.
