Manchester United are in dire need of an additional goalscorer with the heavy reliance on Marcus Rashford this season posing a potential threat for the future. While the 25-year-old has been in tremendous form this season, scoring 25 goals and providing 9 assists in 40 appearances across all competitions, Erik ten Hag wants to sign a prolific striker in the summer to bolster the squad ahead of Champions League football next season.
Many names have been linked with a potential move to Old Trafford with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, AS Roma’s Tammy Abraham, and RB Salzburg prospect Benjamin Sesko all being shortlisted. Another big-name signing United are planning to approach is Tottenham Hotspur superstar Harry Kane.
Manchester United optimistic about signing Harry Kane
The Red Devils are planning on making an approach in the summer transfer window for the England captain with The Sun reporting that the 29-year-old’s agent has already given a positive response to United’s inquiry.
Spurs are currently sitting 4th on the Premier League table with Liverpool and Newcastle following closely behind and the report suggests that if Tottenham misses on Champions League football by failing to keep their spot in the top four, Kane may very well be on his way out.
On top of this, the current price tag of £100 million set on the English international could see a drastic reduction, especially with the striker’s contract expiring in 2024. Kane is already content with his career at Tottenham, already becoming the club’s all-time goalscorer, and has publically revealed that he isn’t very keen on continuing in London.
Ten Hag is keen on signing a prolific goalscorer and Kane could be the perfect candidate, having scored 18 league goals in 26 appearances this season.
