Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is in dire need of a prolific striker with left-winger Marcus Rashford being the only reliable goalscorer this season. While the 25-year-old has found great success by switching to the striker’s role, scoring 25 goals and providing 9 assists in 40 appearances for the Red Devils, the Dutch boss knows the importance of having an additional goalscorer in his squad.
The repeated injuries to Anthony Martial forced the former Ajax manager to sign Dutch forward Wout Weghorst in the winter transfer window. Still, the 30-year-old has only managed to score 1 goal in 14 appearances since. With potential Champions League football next season, Ten Hag is keen on bringing a prolific striker to his squad with his potential targets being revealed.
Manchester United reveal four-man striker target list
While goals have not been a problem for the Premier League giants, scoring 77 goals in 40 games this season across all competition, the heavy reliance on Rashford could prove to be a major problem.
Football Insider reports that the Manchester side have decided to approach four strikers in the summer. Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, Tottenham Hotspur‘s Harry Kane, AS Roma’s Tammy Abraham, and RB Salzburg’s Benjamin Sesko have all been made summer targets.
Osimhen has been in great form this season, currently leading the Serie A topscorer list with 21 goals and 4 assists in 26 appearances this season. Reports suggest that the Nigerian international will cost United £100 million with Napoli keen on keeping their superstar.
Meanwhile, Tottenham are also reluctant about selling their superstar Harry Kane, with a potential transfer costing anyone around nine figures. The 29-year-old has always been a reliable goalscorer and continues that reputation with 20 goals in 36 appearances to his name this season.
AS Roma’s Abraham is a wanted man in Europe and while the Red Devils are considering his signing, the Italian giants have slapped a £70 million price tag on the 25-year-old. With 7 goals in 34 games to his name, perhaps the hefty price tag would push United into pursuing cheaper options.
One such affordable alternative is 19-year-old Benjamin Sesko who is set to join RB Salzburg’s sister club RB Leipzig in the summer but the Manchester side are evaluating a potential hijack deal.
