Manchester United will know that it is vital for them to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season, if they are to bring world-class players to Old Trafford in the summer. The Premier League giants still have an incredible amount of pull but one can feel it getting weaker with every campaign that they go without winning a trophy.

At this point of time, it feels like they are headed towards their fifth straight trophyless campaign unless something unexpected happens and they end up winning the Champions League, which feels incredibly unlikely at this point of time.

The club were recently knocked out of the FA Cup at the hands of Championship side Middlesbrough in a penalty shootout, with Anthony Elanga’s miss proving decisive. Fans would have been hoping that the Red Devils would bounce back after that result but that has not turned out to be the case till now.

Instead, they drew 1-1 against Burnley, who are at the bottom of the Premier League table right now, away at Turf Moor and then against Southampton at Old Trafford. And it is safe to say that the Red Devils’ top four chances are not looking brilliant at the moment, with Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Wolves also in the running for the third and fourth spot.

De Gea has without doubt been Manchester United’s Player of the Season till now. The Spaniard is back to his best once again and it is hard to imagine where this team would be right now if not for some of his performances this season, when he has almost single handedly kept them in games at times.
