The new FC Barcelona signing enjoyed a brilliant spell at Lyon before joining the Spanish giants this summer.

But it was from Manchester United that he had joined the French side back in 2017, after just a season-and-a-half spell at Old Trafford.

The Dutch star had made a bright start to life in England but ultimately, he could not establish himself as a first-team starter for the Red Devils.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Depay scored 7 goals and provided 6 assists in 53 appearances for Manchester United. On the other hand, he scored 76 goals and provided 55 assists in 178 appearances for Lyon.

His time at Old Trafford was very early on in his career though. In fact, it was his first spell away from Netherlands and you have to feel that a loan spell at another Premier League club might have done him the world of good and probably helped him settled into the English game.

Since leaving the club, he has developed into a fantastic player and is now at FC Barcelona, having joined them on a free transfer this summer.

Depay has also established himself as a regular in the Netherlands national team and is one of their most important players right now. Once again, you have to wonder what could have been if he had stayed at Old Trafford for a while longer.

A versatile player like Depay, capable of playing both at striker and on the left-wing, could have gone on to become a big part of the team. It will be interesting to see how he does at the Camp Nou now.
