Manchester United considering transfer move for Sporting Lisbon star
Left-back is one of the strongest positions in Manchester United’s current squad. Luke Shaw performed incredibly last season and was one of the best left-backs in world football. On the other hand, Alex Telles is a good left-back too and very capable of being a starter for the club himself. Brandon Williams is someone who is also capable of playing in the position.
Thus, the depth at left-back is very impressive. But Telles’ ankle injury is set to see him miss the start of the season. On the other hand, Williams has been linked with a loan move this summer in order to gain some first-team experience.
This has put some doubt around the left-back situation at the club. And as reported by A Bola (via The Sun), Manchester United are considering making a move for Sporting Lisbon’s Nuno Mendes and there might be developments soon.
Mendes is one of the most highly-rated players at Sporting Lisbon currently and he had been linked with the Red Devils even before Telles got injured.

Manchester United linked with transfer move for Mendes
Despite being just 19 years of age, Mendes already has some solid experience under his belt. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made 44 appearances for Sporting Lisbon till now, scoring once and assisting twice. He has also represented the Portugal national team on 5 occasions.
He was also a big part of Sporting Lisbon’s title-winning side of last season. And the youngster has been linked with some of the biggest clubs from around Europe already.
With his current deal running till the summer of 2025, Sporting Lisbon won’t be under any pressure to let him leave anytime soon. Thus, it will be difficult for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to make a move happen this summer. But if they are able to bring him to Old Trafford, it should be considered as a major coup.
