Heading into the summer, one of the things that Manchester United needed to work on was adding depth to their squad in a number of positions. And till now, it is safe to say that the club have enjoyed a brilliant transfer window.

The club have already signed Jadon Sancho and Tom Heaton, and a move for Raphael Varane might not be far away either. They are also expected to make further additions to the squad.

Left-back is an area that they are already very strong in. Luke Shaw was absolutely world-class last season. The English international played arguably the best of football of his career through the course of the 2020/21 campaign and was one of the best left-backs in the entire Premier League.

On the other hand, Alex Telles is a good player as well but he could not get ahead of Shaw in the pecking order last season. And the Brazilian left-back looks set to miss the start of this season. He had picked up an ankle injury earlier which looks set to keep him out of action until September. As reported by Manchester United’s official website, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said:

"“Unfortunately, it’s worse news on Alex Telles than we hoped for, his ankle injury is a little bit more severe than we hoped and he’ll be out for a little spell at least, the whole of August I would think.”"

Alex Telles set to miss the start of Manchester United’s season

In the absence of Telles, Brandon Williams would be expected to come in as his replacement at the start of the season. And the youngster has already made quiet a few appearances for the first-team. Thus, he is very capable of filling in if the situation calls for it.

Williams was expected to leave the club on loan this summer but Telles’ injury could possibly lead to him staying. It remains to be seen what the future holds for the youngster.

Shaw is expected to be Solskjaer’s first-choice left-back come the start of the season. The 26-year-old has been in spectacular form in recent times.

We would like to wish Telles a speedy recovery and hope he is able to return to the pitch soon.
