When the Raphael Varane to Manchester United rumours first emerged a few months back, most people probably would not have thought that it was going to happen. After all, the club have been linked with the Real Madrid star at one time or the other since Sir Alex Ferguson was the manager.

But this time, it very much looks like it is going to happen. As reported by The Guardian, the Red Devils are edging closer to signing Varane with the two clubs discussing the finer details of the deal.

The Frenchman is now expected to be the club’s third summer signing. While Varane has been one of the most important players at Real Madrid for years now, he is now in the final year of his contract and a Santiago Bernabeu exit appears to be near.

Gianluca Di Marzio tweeted out some details about the move, it will be a €50 million transfer fee plus bonuses to Real Madrid and medicals will take place in Manchester in two days:

Varane could be a brilliant signing for Manchester United

It looks like the Red Devils’ deal for Varane is not far away. And it should definitely be considered as a major coup for the club.

Varane has an incredible combination of top level experience and world-class ability. He could be the perfect partner for Harry Maguire in the heart of the defence and they could form one of the best defensive duos in world football.

Many have considered defence to be a weakness in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side over the years. But the introduction of someone like Varane could turn that into a major strength. What is also important is the fact that it looks like the move could take place soon, which would give Varane most of pre-season to settle into his new surroundings.
