It is safe to say that the rumours linking Cristiano Ronaldo with a return to Manchester United have never quite gone away.

It has been over a decade since the Portuguese superstar departed Old Trafford to join Real Madrid. Since then, he has moved to Juventus as well. But his stint in Turin has not been as successful as most would have expected.

When Ronaldo joined Juventus, the feeling was that he was the missing piece of the puzzle who would lead them to the UEFA Champions League title. That has not been the case though and the Italian giants have not been able to make it past the quarter-final stage of the competition during the 36-year-old’s time at the club.

And with just a year left on his current deal, Ronaldo has been linked with a move away this summer. Clubs like Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have been heavily linked with the Portuguese legend. But now, it looks like he wants to extend his time in Turin instead of leaving.

Manchester United have been linked with Ronaldo in recent months

As reported by Gazzetta dello Sport (via Metro), Jorge Mendes has held talks with Juventus and has indicated Ronaldo would like to extend his deal with the club. Mendes has proposed a one-year extension to his current deal which would keep him with the Italian giants until 2023.

Thus, it looks unlikely that a Ronaldo return would be on the cards for the Red Devils this summer. And with him being 36 years of age, with every passing summer, the possibility of it happening will only decrease.

Manchester United have already had an impressive summer transfer window though, agreeing a transfer deal with Borussia Dortmund for Jadon Sancho and signing Tom Heaton on a free transfer. The club have also been linked with players like Raphael Varane and Eduardo Camavinga recently as well, as they will be looking to mount a Premier League title challenge next season after finishing 2nd in the 2020/21 campaign. Thus, it could be a very exciting summer for the fans.
