There is no doubt that Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the greatest footballers in history. And it was at Old Trafford that he first made a name for himself while playing for Manchester United.

The Portuguese superstar won three Premier League titles, an FA Cup, two League Cups, a Community Shield, a FIFA Club World Cup and a Champions League title during his time at the Theatre of Dreams. He also won his first Ballon d’Or while at the club. Ultimately though, he would move to Real Madrid where he spent the majority of his career.

Since then, he has joined Juventus but the move has not gone as well as most would have expected. Ronaldo was believed to be the missing piece to the Champions League puzzle for the Serie A giants. But their performances in Europe have been disappointing over the past three years.

As a result, Ronaldo is now being linked with a move away from the club and perhaps expectedly, Manchester United are being linked with him.

Does a Ronaldo return make sense for Manchester United at this point of time?

The Red Devils have made some significant progress under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over the past few years. But they are yet to win a single piece of silverware under the Norwegian manager.

They had a great opportunity to change that in the Europa League final against Villarreal but ultimately came up short on penalties. And quite a few times now, we have seen this team struggle in the big moments.

Could somebody like Ronaldo, who has won everything that there is to win multiple times over, help with that? He certainly could. But then, you have to wonder whether he would be the right fit for this side.

While the Portuguese legend has continued to deliver individually, there is no denying that Juventus as a team have taken a step back in the past few years. The Red Devils would not want the same to happen at the Theatre of Dreams. Thus, any decision regarding a potential Ronaldo return must be taken very carefully.
