Florentino Perez has been the centre of attention of the footballing world lately. He was the first Chairman of the European Super League, a project which has already been suspended after pressure from all corners of the footballing world led several of the clubs involved, including Manchester United, to withdraw from the competition.

Now, the Red Devils look set to play UEFA Champions League football next season, if they are able to secure qualification of course. Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the club have done relatively well this season. They are second in the Premier League right now and are in the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League.

However, this gradual progression doesn’t mean that United don’t need further reinforcements in the approaching summer transfer window. In fact, centre-back could very well be one of the positions were they might need to sign a player.

And Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane has been linked with the club in recent months, as he could be on the move this summer.

Florentino Perez has provided an update on Manchester United target Raphael Varane’s future

One of the best defenders in the world for almost a decade, Raphael Varane has been continually linked with a summer move to Manchester United.

Fabrizio Romano tweeted out comments from the Real Madrid President regarding Varane’s future:

More from Manchester United News

Varane currently has a contract with the Spanish giants till the summer of 2022. But they might have to let him leave in the summer if they cannot reach a new deal with him soon. Otherwise, he will be a free agent at the end of the following season.

As previously reported, Real Madrid could be looking for a transfer fee in the range of €60 million to €70 million for the 27-year-old. Whether the Red Devils are ready to shell out that amount, especially in the middle of a global pandemic, remains to be seen.

There is expected to be competition for the signature of Varane though as Chelsea are also believed to be interested in signing the French World Cup winner. Thus, it will be interesting to see who ends up signing the defender if it comes down to the two sides ultimately.
