After failing to secure the services of Dayot Upamecano, who is set to join Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, Manchester United are now in constant search of a proper centre-back. And amidst various names being thrown about, Solskjaer appears to be showing special interest towards Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.

The Frenchman was previously one of United’s top transfer target as he seemed to be a perfect fit for the club, even sought after by Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho during their respective reigns at Old Trafford, as claimed by the reports from the Express. And he is on top of Solskjaer’s wishlist as well.

Now, even after spending a world record fee in signing Harry Maguire, Solskjaer feels his team’s defensive line-up is still not upto the mark. It seems like the manager is in doubt over the partnership at the heart of defence, whose mistakes in the past have cost the Red Devils valuable points in the most crucial of times.

So signing another centre-back in the summer could be a solution to their problems and there are very few better than the French World Cup winner in that respect.

Manchester United seem interested in Raphael Varane transfer

It seems like the Real Madrid centre-back could be the perfect solution for Manchester United. The French international has been a part of the Galacticos since 2011 when he arrived from Lens, but it is believed that the 27-year-old could be set to leave Santiago Bernabeu after this season and United will be eager to finally bring him to Old Trafford.

Although they sit at second in the Premier League table, the dream of lifting the title this season is slowly fading away, as United have fallen 10 points behind rivals Manchester City, who currently sit at the top of the table with 56 points to their name.

To no one’s surprise it is the Red Devils’ defence that has been a massive weakness in their recent games which has led to them dropping points which they should have probably won.

Fixing such conditions will now be the top priority for Solskjaer and a seasoned centre-back such as Varane could prove to be the answer if they can indeed sign him.
