Manchester United managed to sign Anthony Martial back in 2015 from AS Monaco, when they were still under the management of Louis Van Gaal. The teenager was signed for a record transfer fee of around £36 million which was considered way too much for a 19-year-old back then and the deal was questioned by many.

Despite such speculations, the Frenchman has managed to carve out a decent career at Old Trafford and is a regular member of the Red Devils’ first-team right now. Although many might question his position once again, after his performances this season.

Thus, the question is, was the deal worth it?

Well, it seems like United might not be completely done with the deal yet, as reported by the Daily Star. According to the transfer documents for Martial, it also mentions some add-ons which United agreed to pay while signing him from Monaco, and if the conditions are met, the Red Devils will find themselves paying a hefty amount. Although, that might not be a bad thing since he will have to be performing at a top level to meet these clauses.

Martial’s Manchester United move to cost over £60 million if add-ons are met

The details as revealed by the article published in the Daily Star, show that the Red Devils will have to pay another €10 million (£7.6 million) if he scores 25 league goals, an added €10 million if he wins 25 caps for the French national side and another €10 million if he is nominated for the Ballon d’Or award. That will make his transfer fee over £60 million. Furthermore, if United receive a transfer fee over £45 million, AS Monaco will receive half of the profit made above that total.

Although judging from Martial’s performances in recent games, it looks like United won’t be paying any of those add-ons any time soon.

Considering the conditions imposed in Martial’s contract, the club will be happy to see such results from the Frenchman as United are now in close competition with crosstown rivals Manchester City over the Premier League title and will be delighted if the Frenchman scores 25 league goals this season.
