A horror show from the Manchester United defence and a last-minute substitution that backfired for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saw the Red Devils drop two points against Everton on Saturday night.

Despite being two goals up at half-time, United failed to secure all three points that were needed to keep the pressure on the current league leaders, Manchester City. Adding to the misery of losing two valuable points on the night, Paul Pogba injured himself while running the midfield for the Red Devils and had to be subbed off in the 39th minute of the game.

Solskjaer opted Fred to replace the Frenchman. And the Manchester United midfield maestro chose to walk right down the tunnel to get some medical attention in what appeared to be a groin injury.

On the back of what was a bitter night that tasted even worse due to the loss of Pogba, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer discussed the severity of his injury in the post-match press conference.

As reported by Manchester Evening News, he said:

"“It seemed like a muscle injury. He’s fine, we’ll check him out tomorrow and we’ll see how serious it is. I hope it’s not too bad but he didn’t carry on so had to take him off.”"

Manchester United will hope it is not a long-term issue

Manchester United host West Ham United in the fifth-round tie of the FA Cup this Tuesday. Even if it is not a serious muscle injury, Pogba is unlikely to feature for the Red Devils in the midweek’s game.

Pogba has proved to be an integral cog in Solskjaer’s side this season, with the 2018 World Cup winner leading the team with his experience and sublime performances lately. In the current season, Pogba also has registered three goals and one assist from 19 Premier League outings but the stats do not tell the full story as he has been absolutely brilliant.

Despite being always surrounded by public criticism and rumours of his uncertain future at Old Trafford, Pogba is seemingly ready to give his Manchester United career a last shot.

And if something very special lures his mind, the 27-year-old might end up putting pen to a contract extension at his boyhood club.
