When Paul Pogba returned to Manchester United in a then world record £89 million move, many felt that he was the guy who would take the club back to the top of English football. Till now, that has not happened.

In fact, it was the arrival of Bruno Fernandes which had the kind of impact that Pogba was supposed to make. Regardless, the Red Devils find themselves in the middle of a Premier League title race. And the French midfield maestro is certainly doing his part.

Earlier in the season, Mino Raiola had claimed in an explosive interview that this was going to Pogba’s last season at Manchester United. Since then though, his game has reached a new level and he might very well be the most important player at Old Trafford on current form, despite the undeniable impact of Fernandes.

As a result, rumours have started to crop up about whether the Frenchman would be interested in extending his stay at the club now that they seem to be one of the top clubs in England once again. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refused to rule out the possibility of him signing a new contract when asked about it. As reported by The Guardian, he said:

"“We’ve got a good open dialogue with Paul so what we talk about and how we see that situation remains between us.“I’m just happy he’s focused and playing really well. He’s happy within himself and that’s important: you can see Paul enjoying football himself with a red shirt on.”"

Could Paul Pogba make the ultimate U-turn and stay at Manchester United?

Now, there are two ways to read into these comments. Firstly, there could be the possibility of Pogba indeed deciding to stay in light of how well the side have done this season. He is a top player who wants to compete for trophies on a regular basis. He has not been provided that opportunity in the last few years but things might be about to change.

On the other hand, you would not expect Solskjaer to come out and say that Pogba won’t be staying, especially when the club are in the middle of a title race. So, it would not be a surprise if he just trying to downplay the question and choosing to focus on the present instead.

Whatever may be the case, the most important thing this is that Pogba is performing on a consistent basis right now. And that is what Manchester United fans will be hoping to see till the end of the season, at least.
