Manchester United will go into today’s game knowing that they need all three points against Southampton if they do not want to slip down the Premier League table.

The Red Devils had done brilliantly to reach the top of the league table but have managed just one win in their last four games. As a result, Manchester City now sit at first and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side have been quite lucky to not fall behind Leicester City as well, who have squandered two chances to overtake United.

But despite their up-and-down form in recent weeks, it is too early to count them out. We have to remember that two of those four games were against Liverpool and Arsenal. And the Red Devils also managed to beat Jurgen Klopp’s side in the fourth round of the FA Cup. Thus, they are still a force to be reckoned with.

On the other hand, Southampton have endured quite a fall after losing three straight league games. As a result, United will be the clear favourites going into tonight’s game.

Here’s how we think Solskjaer will line Manchester United when they take on Southampton tonight:

David de Gea, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Eric Bailly, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Fred, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani.

Expect Bailly to return to the line up. While the duo of Maguire and Lindelof have done very well this season, the Ivorian has also been great when given the chance. Thus, Solskjaer might give him a run out tonight. The rest of the defence is pretty straightforward.

When it comes to the midfield, Matic will probably start in place of McTominay, who was forced off the pitch against Arsenal.

There is also supposed to be a big debate about who starts up top, but on current form, it has to be Cavani who gets the nod ahead of the struggling Anthony Martial.
