There was a lot of riding on Manchester United’s away game against Arsenal. The Red Devils were coming off the back of a shock 2-1 defeat at the hands of Sheffield United in midweek and needed a win to make sure that they did not fall behind in the title race, especially after Manchester City’s win earlier in the day to go four points clear.

Unfortunately, it was not to be as a 0-0 draw is all they could manage. To be honest, they should have won the game with how many players Arsenal were missing but this has been a problem with this United side for quite some time now. They just fail to break down teams that are truly strong in all areas of the pitch.

We are seen the same thing over and over again this season against the traditional ‘Big Six’ and it looks like it will just continue for the time being. They have already had goalless draws in the league against Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.

In fact, in 540 minutes of football against them in the league, they have managed to score just once, that too a penalty against Tottenham Hotspur in that 6-1 defeat at Old Trafford. Clearly this is something that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to address and quickly.

Here are our player ratings for the Manchester United players from today’s draw:

David de Gea – 7

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 7.5

Victor Lindelof – 6.5

Harry Maguire – 6.5

Luke Shaw – 8

Fred – 7

Scott McTominay – 5

Paul Pogba – 7

Bruno Fernandes – 6

Marcus Rashford – 5

Edinson Cavani – 6

Substitutes:

Anthony Martial – 6

Marcus Rashford – 5

Like many big games this season, it was the Manchester United defenders who stepped up their game while the attackers failed to produce.

Shaw was absolutely brilliant and is starting to look like the club’s most consistent player at the moment. On the other hand, the likes of Fernandes, Rashford and Cavani failed to produce the goods on the other end of the pitch. And it could end up costing them dearly as Manchester City now have the chance to open up a lead at the top of the table while the chasing pack can now catch up with the Red Devils.

Next on the agenda for Solskjaer’s side is a home game against Southampton on Tuesday. With 5 points dropped from the past two games, it is now very important that they get a win at Old Trafford. Otherwise, they will be in real danger of sliding down the Premier League table.
