The Manchester United star is reportedly ‘upset’ with his situation at Old Trafford and does not want to give interviews as a result.

It is safe to say that Donny van de Beek would not have visualised his Manchester United career to go the way that it has till now. The Dutchman arrived in the summer as the club’s marquee signing but has failed to break into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans since then.

On most days, he finds himself warming the bench and brought on for a few consolations minutes at the end of the game. And it is hard to blame the manager for not picking him when he has the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba at his disposal.

That raises the question though about whether the signing was required at all or was a desperation one after it had become clear that Jadon Sancho would not come to Old Trafford. Whatever may be the case, it looks like Van de Beek is unhappy with his situation. At least that is the belief of Voetbal International reporter Suleyman Ozturk.

As reported by TEAMtalk, he said:

"“I think Donny is also disappointed by this situation and therefore does not want to give interviews.“He is upset about the situation. Whether he is sorry yet? It looks like a Davy Klaassen scenario. Three-minute raid then you think: what am I doing here?”"

Klassen was a highly-rated midfielder at Ajax who struggled badly at Everton after joining them in 2017. He left just a year later to join Werder Bremen and now finds himself back at the Dutch club.

It is too early to compare his situation with that of Van de Beek. Perhaps the plan was always to give him a year to adjust to the English game before integrating him into the first-team.

That makes a lot of sense considering the fact that Pogba is expected to leave next summer. In that case, Van de Beek would be in line to replace the Frenchman in the starting XI.

Of course, he needs to be patient for that to happen, which is not going to be easy since his national team boss, Frank de Boer, has advised him to look at other options if things don’t improve at Old Trafford and he wants to secure his place in Netherlands’ EURO 2020 squad.
